The Special Education Advisory Council provides an opportunity for parents/guardians of students receiving special education services to provide their perspective in matters related to special education.  

Any parent or guardian of a child with disabilities may participate. Staff, including administrators, teachers, support staff and paraprofessionals, are also encouraged to participate.

Welcome Back to school, team introductions and SEAC goals and initiatives for the year.

October 9 Meeting Notes
Transitions: Parent/staff round table discussion regarding transitions. What we have learned that would be beneficial to share with other families.

November 13th – District 279 SEAC Community Resource Fair

December - No Meeting

January 8th – Focus work for our inclusion initiative.

February 12th – Inclusion:  Advocating for inclusion on your child’s behalf for community and city programs.

  • Speakers: Jen Gillard, Recreation Supervisor for Recreation and Parks Department in Brooklyn Park and Emily Miller, Director of Adaptive Recreation with Reach for Resources.

March 12th – Inclusion: An overview/update on what district staff has implemented or is currently working on to promote inclusion in our schools.”

April 9th – Focus work for our inclusion initiative, The Transition IEP (Grade 9 through age 21)--what do you need to know to be an effective advocate for your child?
