The Special Education Advisory Council provides an opportunity for parents/guardians of students receiving special education services to collaborate with and advise staff regarding district policy and decision-making.
- Advises ISD 279 on policy and decisions affecting and/or related to special education;
- Provides parent involvement in the program improvement process;
- Recommends priorities to be addressed in planning; and
- Provides parent/guardian perspectives on matters related to special education.
Any parent or guardian of a child with disabilities may participate. Staff, including administrators, teachers, support staff and paraprofessionals, are also encouraged to participate.

Unless otherwise noted, all meetings take place from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Educational Service Center, 11200 93rd Ave N, Maple Grove.
September 12 – Welcome back to school. Come and meet the district coordinators and learn about Student Services priority work.
September 15 – PACER Center presents, “Pathway to the Future—Using the IEP to Develop Transition Services.” Visit www.pacer.org to register. Workshop will be held at Maple Grove Community Center from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Pizza available at 5:30.
October 10 -- PACER Center presents “The ABC’s of the IEP for Transition Age Students and Their Parents” Workshop, which will be held at Maple Grove Community Center from 6:00-8:00 pm. Visit www.pacer.org to register. Pizza available at 5:30.
November 14 — Inclusion – How is the appropriate setting chosen for students?
January 9 – Transitions – How do we ensure students are prepared to handle transitions between programs and schools?
March 13 — Working with your IEP team to utilize the results of your child’s three-year evaluation in order to write appropriate IEP goals.
April 10 — Speaker, topic yet to be determined.
May 8 — End of the year celebration at Sundance Bowl.
